Episode 1: The Practice

Welcome to our inaugural episode of Life is the Practice, a voyage into mindfulness and the power of staying present in our lives. I hope you’ll consider me a companion or teacher, or guide as we explore the techniques I’ve developed over 25 years as an executive coach and meditation teacher dedicated to bringing purpose and peace to our everyday experience.

You are, without a doubt, ready to embark on this journey if you:

  • Would like to be a better parent or partner
  • Are ready to break free from unwanted habits and get over the burden of the past.
  • Would like to develop a healthier relationship with money or food.
  • Desire to lead with compassion.

When we create inner space and take responsibility, we’re opening up the doors to a life meaningfully lived. Our relationship with the world and the people around us improves as we come to live in a place of alignment. How do you locate this sense of fullness, joyful presence and unconditional peace?

To get us started, on this episode I introduce you to:

  • The fundamental pillars underpinning the spirit of my practice.
  • My program’s three key elements:
    • Meditation.
    • Active practice.
    • Processing of negative emotional charge.

We are at the gateway to transformation. By improving the quality of our daily lives, we improve the quality of experience for everyone else. We have it within us to create a kinder, healthier planet. It all starts with the decision to take back our personal power and commit to becoming the change we seek. We are creating a conscious reunion with life!

Keep practicing, Friends. Our new world is in your hands.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • Juan opens the episode by highlighting what we can expect to learn about his Life is the Practice program.
  • A series of testimonials from Juan’s clients, who have come to him with diverse backgrounds and sets of circumstances. The common thread? A renewed and vital connection with inner calm and purpose.
  • About the internal mode of operating Juan identifies as the “egoic state,” an identification of self that is defined by the mind and often associated with fear, scarcity, insecurity and dissatisfaction.
  • How a shift in alignment can yield self-connection and trust as well as freedom from various forms of struggling.
  • How we can shift the balance of our awareness of being, an intimate and direct experience of life itself. Life with a Big L.
  • While it may seem like a divine state, alignment and inner peace are actually our default.
  • Mindfulness is an ongoing practice with its own rhythms, ebbs and flows.
  • About what Juan’s practice embodies: Combining traditional mindfulness practices with hands-on professional and personal experience.
  • Breaking down the three words that define Juan’s work:
    • Present: An increased awareness of the present moment through our ability to observe our experience as it is unfolding; to be here and to know it.
    • Peaceful: A return to our natural state, when we have stopped resisting our experience in the present moment and choose instead to surrender, trust and align ourselves with life.
    • Purposeful: Discovering the meaning of life that occurs when we relate to others from an internal position of love and unity instead of fear and separation; honoring what we share with others as well as what makes us unique.
  • Juan outlines the three key elements (meditation, active practice and emotional processing) that make up his process; techniques that bring awareness to and acceptance of our mental, emotional and physical states.
  • Future episodes will delve more deeply into these tools and techniques. If you’d like to get started right away with your practice, consider exploring my online course.
  • It’s all too easy to focus on struggle and blame others for our sorrow. The heroic, if humble, work lies in bringing love and intention to every mundane detail of ordinary life!

KEY QUOTES:

“Mindfulness can be a catalyst for change and a resource that you can always tap into.”

“Life brings difficulties and challenges to everybody. None of us are free from these experiences. However, it is also true that how we have learned to live and been taught can make things even more complicated; can create additional suffering.

“Our main existential problem has to do with a sort of internal paradigm that colors and distorts the way we humans relate to the world and to others.”

“There is a way to face life that brings us more peace and joy. There is a way to engage with the world that implies simplicity and less suffering.”

“When we arrived in the world, we were all in a state of alignment. And from there we learned something different that separates us from it … The practice shows us the way back to our original state.”

“What matters here in the end is to face life with inner peace and joy; to live in a simpler way without so many complications and suffering, without harming ourselves and others. Basically to live in touch with our essential nature.”

“The more we strive to eliminate the suffering within ourselves, the less suffering we will see reflected in the world. Inner peace. Outer peace.”
